SNOOKER legend Ronnie O’Sullivan claimed he would be more than happy to step into the ring with his “new mate” Tyson Fury during an interview at the 2018 Welsh Open.
The Rocket cruised through the first round of the competition after Robin Hull was forced to withdraw, before whitewashing Graeme Dott earlier today to book his place in the next stage of the tournament.
The 42-year-old will be hoping to claim the 33rd tournament win of his career with victory in the Welsh Open – and he can count on an unexpected celebrity fan to help cheer him on.
Speaking to Eurosport yesterday, the man from Wordsley revealed all: “Tyson [Fury] is training at the same gym as me.
“Someone said he was in there but I didn’t quite believe them.
“I was getting changed and I saw people looking over at this big fella and I thought ‘there’s Tyson’.
“I said ‘I know your mate Billy Joe [Saunders]’ and he said ‘alright Ronnie, how are you doing?’
“We just had a chat but I said I’d ‘listen, I’ll join you on a few runs and even do a few rounds with you if you fancy it?’
“I haven’t [got into the ring yet] but I only met him last week so, we’re both busy people, but we will meet up.
“He’s my new mate.”
Fury is currently training hard to get back fighting fit after swelling up to more than 26 stone during his well-documented two-year absence from boxing.
The former undisputed heavyweight champion is yet to announce a date, or an opponent, for his comeback fight.
