JONES STUNS TRUMP IN BARNSLEY

World number 85 Jak Jones recorded a shock 6-5 defeat of eight-time ranking event winner Judd Trump to secure his place at the China Open.
The Ace in the Pack’s surprise defeat comes amid high stakes at this week’s China Open Qualifying at the Barnsley Metrodome. It was recently announced that the tournament will pay out the biggest winner’s prize outside of the World Championship of £225,000 and hold a total prize fund of £1 million.
This was the first meeting between the pair in a full ranking event and Jones managed to edge out the two-time China Open winner in what was a high quality contest.
Trump charged to a 2-0 advantage with breaks of 60 and 117. The Welshman was undeterred and showed his resolve to win the next two frames and level the tie at 2-2.
The 2011 UK Champion re-asserted himself on proceedings with a run of 92 to regain the lead at 3-2. He then looked odds on to move two ahead when he was in first with 56 in the sixth frame. However, Jones dramatically cleared with 64 to restore parity at 3-3.
They then traded frames as the match went to a decider, where Jones made a pivotal contribution of 60 to claim the impressive 6-5 win.
Anthony Hamilton produced a dramatic fightback to overcome David John 6-5.
The German Masters Champion had looked set to go into next week’s defence of his title in Berlin off the back of a disappointing defeat when he trailed 5-1.
However, the Sheriff of Pottingham managed to claw his way back into the tie. Hamilton top scored with 101 in the marathon comeback win which lasted five hours and 35 minutes.
Jack Lisowski secured his place in Beijing with a 6-4 win over Northern Ireland’s Gerard Greene. While Joe Perry saw off Greene’s compatriot Joe Swail 6-1.
2006 World Champion Graeme Dott came through with a 6-2 win over Mei Xiwen and Martin Gould saw off the challenge of Fang Xiongman by the same 6-2 scoreline.
